🔫 Nikon Z 24 120 F4 Vs 24 70 F2 8
The 24-70 f2.8S is quite literally a bag of f2.8 primes in the one lens. It has true professional performance as far as wide open sharpness, edge to edge sharpness, sharpness at all focal lengths, all apertures and all camera to subject distances. It has very nice bokeh and overall IQ. It is a remarkable lens, IMO.
The 24-70mm 2.8 is obviously the most popular work horse lens it seems for wedding shooters but I was wondering if the 24-120mm f4 vr would be a major step down?
The images I have seen on various sites seems to show it is quite capable as a workhorse lens plus about $600 cheaper and I have 50mm 1.4, 85mm 1.4 and 80-200mm 2.8D in the arsenal
That’s where you need wide angle and normal lenses. Most people pair a 24-70 with it and many others will add an ultra-wide in the 14-24ish range. A teleconverter can extend the 70-200 even more. Now for the wildlife question. Sure you can shoot some wildlife with it or with it and a TC20 (2x) making it a 140-400/5.6.
For those of you who have either the Z 24 - 50 f/4 ~ f/6.3 or the 24 - 70 f/4 , what factors went into your decision to buy either as far as image quality , handling , etc. ? Honestly I bought the 24-70F4 waiting for the 2.8 and the 24-120 or 24-105 to arrive as that's the way it has "Always been".
The 24-200 is already at F/6.3 by about 85mm so the 24-120 is giving you a stop and a third more light at portrait focal lengths (and of course less DoF that is sometimes desirable). On the flip side 120 vs 200 is quite a significant difference in reach.

I do own a Z 24-120 f4, and it's a fantastic lens. Sharp, quick and light. The 35-150 is considerably heavier, and apparently slower to focus, at least on Sony's E mount version. It's often recommended for events, portraits, weddings etc. but not so much for faster action, like spots or street photography.
Canon RF 24-105mm L IS and RF 35mm f1.8 are also shorter than the Sony equivalents. RF 50mm f1.2L is also the same length as the Sony/Zeiss 50mm f1.4 (despite the wider aperture). The new RF 70-200mm f2.8 will also be the shortest 70-200mm f2.8 lens ever. Nikon Z 24-70mm f4 is also shorter than the much inferior Sony/Zeiss 24-70mm f4 OSS.
The 24-200mm appears to perform a bit better on the long end but it is slower at f/6.3. At f/6.3, the 24-120/4 might perform the same or better. The Nikon charts do not tell this. Personally, I’d go with the 24-200mm lens as it has the most range and is well regarded when it comes to its performance. It is not weather sealed which may or may

Having had three of them, the Z 24-70mm f/2.8 S, the Z 24-70 f/4 S, and the Z 28-75 f/2.8, in my possession for the last few months, I have noticed a few strengths and weaknesses of each which
